Touch screen Blackberry in the works?
May 25, 2008

From a CNET-affiliated blog:
Research in Motion has a touch-screen BlackBerry in the works that should be out in the third quarter, according to a report Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal has echoed a previous report from The Boy Genius Report that RIM’s BlackBerry Thunder will arrive later this year exclusively on Vodafone and Verizon’s networks. The device is seen as an answer to Apple’s iPhone, which will likely be running on AT&T’s 3G network by the time the Thunder arrives.
RIM is by far the leading smartphone company in the U.S., but Apple has come out of nowhere to take second place, and the competition should intensify with Apple’s plans for business-friendly software and RIM’s continued advance into the consumer market. RIM has started advertising the BlackBerry during consumer-friendly shows such as the NBA playoffs, and Apple’s getting set for The Second Annual Month of iPhone Ridiculousness in the coming weeks.
The Blackberry…the only phone with the potential to kill the iPhone and cement its place as the world’s leading smartphone. A touchscreen Blackberry, if done correctly, could blow away the iPhone. Maybe? We’ll see.

Facebook to redesign profiles
May 23, 2008

According to PC World, Facebook is going to push ahead with a major redesign and renovations to the profile set up on the social networking site. The main idea behind the redesign is to reduce profile clutter. I applaud this decision 100%, because as a Facebook user, I have been noticing a trend of too many applications on numerous profiles. From the PC World article: “The redesign will attempt to unclutter the profiles by redistributing their components to different tabs. Current plans call for four main tabs — for the activity feed, basic member information, photos and applications. Members will be able to add more application tabs. In addition, the activity feed tab will feature a new authoring control panel, called the Publisher Box, for creating and posting content. Meanwhile, the profile will have at the top a new horizontal navigation line with drop-down menus for its core features. ”
Sounds good to me. One of the things that made me appreciate Facebook over MySpace was the fact that profiles were actually somewhat organized. Recently, the thousands of applications on Facebook have run a little wild. This new addition of “tabs” will hopefully improve all of this.

Jack Thompson gets what he deserves: Found guilty of misconduct
May 21, 2008
According to a report from GamePolitics, the judge who presided over Miami lawyer Jack Thompson’s Bar trial has recommended to the Florida Supreme Court that he be found guilty on 27 of 31 charges of professional misconduct. Of the 27 recommendations of guilt, twenty-one are from a suit related to Grand Theft Auto and four are from an attempt by Thompson to have Rockstar’s Bully declared a public nuisance.
The Bar trial judge, Dava Tunis, found the violent video game activist guilty of misconduct such as “Engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.” The state Supreme Court will have to make a ruling based on those recommendations, with a disciplinary hearing planned for the first week of June.
I think someone should try to get Jack Thompson declared a public nuisance.
