Quake 3 for iPod Touch?
April 9, 2008
A video on Endgadget.com recently featured two iPod touches running the late 1990’s-era computer game, Quake 3. Endgadget has confirmed the authenticity of this video, and the developers that put Quake 3 on the iPod say that it took them between 8-12 hours. However, there are no plans to make this avaliable to the public, possibly because of its dubious legality. I would like to see them make it public…only because the games avaliable for the iPod Touch now are, in my opinion, pretty mediocre.
Here’s the video of Quake 3 being played on an iPod Touch

Facebook to launch new service: Facebook Chat
April 6, 2008

Quote from CNET source on the service: Facebook Chat is “very compelling experience that will spell trouble for legacy IM networks that haven’t built vibrant social networks around their friend lists (i.e. AIM). By making Facebook more real time/presence oriented, Facebook session length should go up a lot. Facebook will become an important player in IM very soon.” The Facebook chat service is expected to be made avaliable to the masses either Tuesday night of Wednesday morning. Facebook Chat will not require a download, which is good because it means less hassle and less programs cluttering up your system.
Facebook is growing more and more successful, and is striving to reach out into new areas. Will Facebook Chat be a success, like MSN and AIM, or a failure, like MySpace IM? We will soon find out. This is Kolametal, signing off.
Microsoft to extend life for Windows XP
April 4, 2008
![]()
Microsoft has announced that it will extend the life of Windows XP, but only on a special class of machines. Windows XP, who’s sale is set to be discontinued at the end of June of this year, will continue to be installed in a class of computers called ultra low cost PC’s(ULCPCs). ULCPCs are bascially downgraded versions of regular Microsoft PCs, at a very low price. While the sale of Windows XP for all other classes of computers is set to end in June 2008, the sale of Windows XP on ULCPCs will continue all the way to June 2010. Support for Windows XP on regular PCs worldwide is set to end in 2009, with limited support ending in 2014.
To me, this extension of Windows XP’s life, even on a limited class of computers, underscores the disaster that Windows Vista has brought on Microsoft. Little has gone right for Vista since its launch in January 2007. Microsoft simply promised too much and produced too little. Maybe things will go better for Microsoft when they release Windows 7, sometime in 2010.
