Internet Explorer vs. Firefox

December 28, 2007

For a while, I was an Internet Explorer user, and have used Internet Explorer 7 for the entire time I’ve written for this blog. However, I just recently downloaded Firefox 2. I had been meaning to do this for some time, but IE7 had always done its job, so I put it off until this past week, when I’ve had a lot of free time due to the holidays. And I can say that I prefer Firefox to Internet Explorer by a long shot.

The Firefox download was quick and painless, and didn’t make me restar, delete, or change anything in my computer. I was able to import all my favorites and password cookies over from IE 7. In just a few minutes, Firefox was running as if I had always had it as my web browser. When I first opened up my iGoogle page on it, I immediately liked the toolbar better then the one I had used on IE 7; though the bookmarking feature was a little different, it was easier to access and alphabetized my favorites, making for a quicker web surfing experience. Other then that, it was pretty much as the same as the IE 7 toolbar, except it is better organized then the IE 7 one.

One thing I really liked about Firefox was the secession saver; I accidentally log off while in the middle of something occasionally, and sometimes the power will surge, causing my computer to crash. This is a really helpful feature. At first, I found the Firefox spellchecker kind of annoying, but now I’ve learned to use it to my advantage. Everything in Firefox is basically improved from what IE 7 has. In addition, Firefox is also less susceptible to viruses, spyware, etc.

Essentially, Firefox is the superior web browser to Internet Explorer 7. I realize most of the traffic on Biojunkie comes from IE 6 and 7 users: while Internet explorer is a good browser, Firefox is better in almost every respect. I would advise anyone to download Firefox(its free and easy). I was an Internet Explorer user for a long time, and I find that I enjoy Firefox much more then I ever did with any IE version.

Stumble upon new sites with the click of a button

December 26, 2007

I recently downloaded the StumbleUpon.com toolbar for my computer, and have been very much enjoying it. StumbleUpon.com is an application that is downloaded to your computer; you select your interests from a list at the site, and when you click the “stumble” button, you are taken to a web page similar to that of your interests. I have already found dozens of pages I never would have found thanks to the StumbleUpon.com toolbar. Here’s a screenshot of my StumbleUpon toolbar:

StumbleUpon is very good at finding websites similar to the listed interests of the user. For me, its found blogs, online comics, pictures, videos, and flash games related to the interests I listed when I signed up for StumbleUpon. And the more websites you stumble across and give a thumbs up or thumbs down to, the more specific your Stumbler gets.

If you want to discover new sites, download this. Its free, easy, and painless. This is Kolametal, signing off.
